Conventional

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

A following of traditional customs.
Valued to treasure them.
And used as a measure,
To please and pleasure...
A repetitious existence.
Wishing to keep it as is to live.
One can only imagine,
How frustrating this attempt had been...
For dinosaurs.
Gone.
And nolonger amongst us.

Convenient and steady,
Old and rusting outdated habits.
Relying on divisions still to implement.
From a past quickly shedding away.
To reveal a future blooming,
Nothing can delay.
These are the times we all should pray.
For the many still with visions,
Of resuscitation breathless horses...
Long beatened to death.
And left fossilized.

Yes!
We should and must pray.
For the ones hoping to restore,
Their missed and joyful yesterdays.
More today embellished to exaggerate,
Than at any time before.
When ethnic diversity,
No one now can not ignore.

Although when asked,
About the rise of conflicts.
Division.
Bigotry and racism.
Those defending their ways become upset.
To say,
What they do is not about race.
But a past from them they want to stay.
And object to it being erased.
To be replaced by a future.
Fading away the image of their faces.

'Uh...
Do you mind repeating,
Your objection to the future?'

'Not at all.
Our image is being replaced.
By ethnicity.
And the many faces of this...
Cruel process.'

'And...
Just what is that image of yours,
Threatening to be replaced and erased?'

'Look at me!

'Oookkkay. I'm looking!'

'And tell me quickly what do you see?'

'Someone who is making me feel,
Extremely uneasy!'

'I am not talking about that.
I represent power.
I reek of it.
It can not be resisted.
I have been chosen to spread it!'

'May I ask you a question?'

'Sure.'

'In what other noticeable ways,
Have you chosen to prove...this...
Superiority over others,
You feel you have?
And...
Have gone out to do something about it?'

'Only when my attention needed to have,
Is not returned to have me noticed.'

'Well...
Congratulations!'

'For what and why?'

'Trust me.
The power you have to get attention,
And noticed for the way...
This is achieved?
Is noticeable.
And any doubt you may have?
You must not watch TV that often.
Or not at all.'

'Wow.
And how did you know that?'

'Just a...
C.R. T. moment I am having.'

'I once had the same thing.
Then I found this incredible diet.
Now I sleep through the night.
Before?
At least twice every night,
There I was in the bathroom.'

'Being noticed too I bet, huh?'

'Wow.
I don't believe this.
Are you psychic?
You know...
A mind reader?'

'Not at all.
Just observant.
