Sunlight Waiting

Gallows Hill Park
Salem, Massachusetts

I am wholly satisfied
with the Preface, the story,
the outcome. Even now —
trembling hands turn pages,
light pours from windows,
from beneath closed doors
the mystery that led me here.
Every innocent path weeps,
every innocent tree sighs.
Follow me here at sunset.
You — innocent and in love
with the sunlight — waiting.
