No Room in Bethlehem
No Star, no Angels, herald the coming, of a 'motiveless' Savior.
To end the brutal, senseless mayhem, there is no room in Bethlehem.
No shepherds no guiding star, no wise men carrying
frankincense and myrrh of peace,
to unravel the tangled threads, of age old claims,
there is no room in Bethlehem.
No humble manger to soften
the hurt felt by each deep within,
to bathe the wounds
and absolve of blame
there is no room in Bethlehem.
No David yet reborn to vanquish
the Goliath of retribution,
to quell the fury of hatred intense, to douse the flames of rage,
there is no room in Bethlehem.
No will, no compromise emanating,
crescent, star and heaven itself mangled yet,
to save sacred Jerusalem,
to live and let live
there is no room in Bethlehem.
About this poem
Every time we hear of the conflict and see the mayhem, the hatred and the division of two peoples, each having a right to their perspective about their own views on possession of territories disputed over since long, our heart bleeds to see the suffering and the mind wonders whether there is a chance of everlasting peace. No one knew the divinity of the yet to be born Jesus when the family travelled to Bethlehem and thus if there was no room available in Bethlehem for the future savior will there be room and a will to erase memories of the past for lasting peace?
