Learning What Is Taught

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

The one thing,
Learning what is taught does...
With a continuance not to learn.
Is a learning that is taught,
Leaving one more questions to ask.
Never to satisfy,
That curious thirst to never end...
One's ability to admit,
A knowing of anything...
Stays to remain unchanged.

I remember being called ignorant.
Many years ago.
To had become upset.
Someone perceived me to be,
Incapable to think independently.
So I set out to prove,
I was just as knowledgeable.
And intelligent.
To know I was not ignorant at all.
Then I discovered,
From my own experience.
To not attempt to convince anyone,
Of knowing anything that begins...
Innocently that ends,
In an argument yelling and shouting.
Over something that makes,
Common sense to claim it had...
Unproven without providing,
Any proof or evidence of it!

Today?
If someone wishes to boast and gloat,
About having apparently...
More intelligence.
Than I appear to have.
I wouldn't get upset at all.
Nope.
I would leave and thank them.
Knowing my peace of mind,
Is left intact.
And not to be provoked,
In performing ignorant acts.
Especially in public.

There are times when reacting,
To exchange ignorant behavior.
With another who knows and admits,
They claim an ability...
To identify what ignorance is.
Is to go along with their assessment.

There are times and not too often,
When accepting to be labelled ignorant.
Ultimately has its benefits.
To know to choose when to leave it,
Undefeated.

'Did you hear me call you 'ignorant'?

'Yes. Yes, I did.
And...
It sent shivers up and down my spine.
Covering my entire body in goosebumps!'

'Are you NUTS?!'

'Oh...
You had to go there.
PLEASE!
PLEASE DON'T ADD THE NUTS.
Just the mention of that word,
Drives me INSANE.
CRAVING FOR MADNESS!

WHERE ARE YOU GOING?
DONT GO.
PLEASE INSULT ME!
PLEASE!
