A Forest Bench

A Forest Bench

Our path meanders through the forest
Tranquil sounds of the wind in the trees
Cricket’s dancing in the grass

We wander, coming upon a small wooden bench
Rounded and faded and softened with age
Part of the landscape;
yet an outpost for contemplation

It beckons us to sit;
to reflect on matters of the heart
We stop together and smile;
courtesy displayed; we sit

Falling helplessly into our thoughts
Tranquility embraces us
We become calm; a rapture of the senses

Fresh air, sweet smells and a canopy of green
We wrap ourselves in the moment
Remembering too many things;
Feelings forgotten

We see with newborn eyes;
We return to ourselves
