LIES

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Lies are told every day now
By the people who rule this land,
Lies are used for controlling us
By the bullies who are in command.

Lies are told by politicians
Who have forgotten how to tell the truth
They say evil, stupid “facts”
And, of course, offer up no proof.

Their lies fool many young sheeple
But the old folks have learnt how to doubt,
And rebels of all denominations
Are fighting to bring the truth out.

They’re fighting with biros and cartoons
Satirising the liars who rule,
Showing them up for the despots they are
Treating them like bloody fools.

The liars will get their comeuppance
One day, I’m certain that it’s true,
But till that far off day arrives
They will continue to use lies to rule.
