THE NIGHT INVASION

Black shadows quickening
Across the barren lawn,
Dark shadows thickening
The night terror was born.

Dark figures creeping
Toward an unlit terrace,
Horror slowly seeping
Across a victim’s face.

Night visions calling
In a nightmare sound,
All hope is falling
As the sun goes surely down.

Strange creatures loping
Toward their sleeping prey,
Frightened victims hoping
Just to live till the light of day.

Night beasts are howling
Shrieking dire cries of lust,
Dreadful nightmare yowling
Beginning with the dusk.

Footsteps are slinking
Around a room at night,
Victims are blinking
Like rabbits in headlights.

Awful creatures peer
Out from nightmare places,
Evil things bring icy fear
With coarse primordial faces.

Out of the murky reaches
Of a dark and musty room,
Slink fearful shadowy creatures
Bringing only doom.
