We Is What We Is

I cry & I scream
why won't you believe
you say that you love me
but you inflict pain upon me.
I am still your daughter
though you didn't raise me
brought up by my grandparents
because you chose to leave.
When you came back
in 1985
I was filled with joy
'cause you were back in my life.
The joy quickly faded
and in reality I see
that I never had your love
and you never wanted me.
But you play with my emotions
always pretending to be
a kind and loving mother
when you want something from me.
You use and discard me
then leaving me alone
telling others how much you hate me
& by our family I've been disowned.
I refused to believe the truth
all the hatred that is there
I naively thought I could earn your love
to somehow make you care.
And through it all
these many years
nothing has changed
except my tears.
Finally I accept
what the truth really is
I am unloved, hated & unwanted
and my family is what it is.
