The Red Rose Of Summer

Tabitha J. Bryson 1973 (Indianapolis, Indiana)

A Garden Stroll
flowers in bloom
storm clouds gather
impending doom.

Lightning flashes
quickly I hide
a mad dash
as I run inside.

Sirens wail
a tornado was seen
sky changes color
a blackish-green.

The winds gust
the tree's in bend
a rose in the garden
time suspends.

Tornado passes
storm clouds clear
I see the rose
shedding a tear.

The garden's destroyed
but she's still there
a perfect red rose
beauteous and fair.
