A time to hug

My blonde little boy sits content on my lap,
Taking it easy, enjoying his snack.
I sit there impatiently, I have things to do.
Dinner is not started, the house is a zoo.
Finally you’re done, I can get started now.
“We’ll cuddle later” I promise, I vow.
You look at me, smile, “hug”? You say.
I roll my eyes, must be the 100th time today.
You put your arms around me,
Your head on my shoulder.
I feel some sadness,
This will quit when you’re older.
You pull away and flash that smile,
“Dinner can wait “I say. “Let’s cuddle a while”
“Can I have a hug”? I hear myself say.
You laugh and grab me, I’d have it no other way
