THE TERRORISTS

JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)

THE TERRORISTS

On a very hot day at the end of June
Three friends met in the afternoon
They sat at a table of the village pub
Cooled by a breeze as it wafted a shrub

The trio met there to brag and to talk
Or to be more precise to roar and to squawk
For one was a rooster another a bear
And the third a fierce lion with a thirst to share

With one sip took of the dark warm beer
The topic discussed was who held the most fear?
A lion, a bear or a fine-feathered friend
Each laid their claim where fear will pretend

The bear said the woods were in his domain
And everyone there knew bruin’s fierce claim
When I let out my roar strong men run and hide
If I stand nine foot tall they are all terrified

The lion contended that he was still king
At the head of a pride claws and teeth are the thing
But to show my displeasure I roar in the night
And there is no creature that does not tremble with fright

The rooster was quiet and said little at all
He was not really fierce and could not recall
A time when the chicken was cock of the walk
In fact the word chicken was cowardice talk

The bear and the lion waited with glee
For they thought that no chicken could act fiercely
And smugly they held that this province was theirs
No chicken had teeth like lions and bears

The rooster drew breath and would not be outdone
Though of strength and ferocity he simply had none
And said I don’t roar but have had the odd wheeze
You should see everyone run each time that I sneeze
