A Tug of war

Sadness in the eyes yet hope in our heart
Feelings run deep with need to give us a fresh start

Clarity in our heart, doubt in our mind
Compassion and love alone can help us leave doubt behind

Each other is all we need, yet validation we seek
Ego stands tall at times even the most beautiful things seem meek

But what is ego if not a state of mind
Taking us places, where momentary thrills is all we can find

Thoughts, actions and words we despise
Wanting to have no surprise

Knowing where we went wrong is a matter of pride
Without awareness, inside of ourselves we hide

Seeking acceptance and forgiveness we strive
Seemingly unaccepting of what to accept or forgive, we struggle to thrive

With awareness we can observe our emotions and thoughts
With empathy and acceptance, they can be bought to naught

After everything said and done, we search for confidence
Keepers of each other heart is of only significance

Passion of you I hold close, childlike innocence of you I cherish
Imperfection is perfection, this tug of war we do not relish

Let the sanctity run deep, let it not be stained
So let all the toxicity get drained

What is past if not a dream or nightmare
What is future if not an imagination
There is just now, let that be filled with gratification
