An Old Invitation

One long ago day,
     across the sea;
On a cross He hung,
     for you and me.

His purpose was,
     our sins He'd clear;
He'd wash us clean,
     and hold us dear.

He went to His Father,
      in heaven above;
He pleaded with grace,
     and boundless love.

Forgive them Father,
      for all they do;
I'll die for their sins,
       so they can know You.

His Father said,
      I love you Son,
As You have asked;
      so shall it be done.

So Jesus died that day,
      for all our sin;
He opened heaven's gates
       and invited us in.
