THE PODS

A monstrous chamber
Where leafy pods are growing,
In glass cylinders.

In the leafy pods
A horrid writhing breaks out,
Pods about to burst.

Nameless mutant plants?
Or weird dimensional freaks?
Horror writhes within!

A single pod bursts
Out comes a green tentacle,
Writhing like an arm.

A verdant body
Manlike (yet plantlike) follows,
Bursting from the pod.

A leafy monster
Manlike yet alien as well,
Stands outside the pod.

Tentacles smack glass
The cylinders cracks, then breaks,
Out steps the plant beast.

Soon all the pods are
Beginning to burst open:
An army breaks out.

Cylinders explode
The plant creatures step out,
And search round the chamber.

Soon they discover
Stairs leading up and out of,
Their basement prison.

They kill scientists
Whom they discover upstairs,
Tending to the pods.

Then they move onward
Out of the secret lab,
Into the outside world.

Pod creatures marching
Into an unwary world,
Soon they start to kill.

The pod creatures war
Against humanity till,
Terror reigns supreme.

Human beings die
In thousands, then in millions,
As the war goes on.

Pod creatures winning
The human race is dying,
Nothing left to lose.

Atom bombs are used
The pod creatures are dying,
And humanity.

Men and pod creatures
Are all eradicated,
Planet Earth is dead!
