THE BLACK AVENGER

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The Black Avenger is creeping
Through a dark and horrid night,
As the guilty gone unpunished find
Today they’re sure to die.

The avenger metes out justice
For all the murders unhanged,
He hunts them down and punishes all
Across this malignant land.

The innocent are safe from
The avenger’s ruthless ways,
But all of the rapists outside gaol
Have met their final day.

The avenger’s seeking justice
Within this very unjust land,
And when justice cannot be found
He lends a striking hand.

The rich must pay their taxes
Or their lives will surely fall,
Unless they give a fair share out
The avenger will take it all.

And governments must stop the crimes
They commit against the poor,
For the avenger’s on the side of those
Whose life has taken a fall.

He’s not there for the hedonists
Unless it’s to cut them down,
The street folk and the needy are
Where his goodness does abound.

The Black Avenger is reaping
The lives of all the evil,
Sending them to meet their maker
As they go down to find the Devil.
