EARTH,WIND AND FIRE

JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)

EARTH WIND AND FIRE

The earth stood dry and craved the rain
As the fire jumpers lost an edge once gained
The cinders meander through the tinder brush
The red wall advancing another ploy crushed
Above the fire break cut through in haste
The fire planes loose the water chaste
Marked out by the cloud of red in the sky
In the canyon of fire this forest will die
A trail of sparks seek a new place of rest
And the oldest sequoia succumbs to the test

On a dirt road to hell in a chain of command
A fiery prisoner breaks free of remand
The hot breath of a monster lives deep in its heart
And flames dance the tango that no force can part
Ten thousand homes gone, a million trees dead
From high orbit they stare down the throat of bright red
At the lost a bewildered obscured by the smoke
In the chaos of Hades trying hard not to choke
As the pall of black smoke blots out a star
Desperation the passenger on this streetcar

The surgical buzz saws wheal and deal in tree death
On the firewall parrying each outbreak well met
The beast is a spectre living hot midst the flame
High winds are the ally that drive it insane
Its food is the forest, it’s lair the hillside
It’s children hot cinders on the wind as they ride
In South California where rain is a stranger
The fire bridge scorches the face of the ranger
In the canyon of fire its foe is but a man
Charged with determination “Stop the beast if he can”
