Sudden Death

Was it the devil's moon
the maddening twilight
or the mere thought
of the loss of you in my life?
I know I became angry
and overcome by the fear
as the shots rang out
screaming & tears.
You & I
on a hot summer's day
decided to have a picnic
and watch the children play.
Laughter was subsided
as the shouting began
gang members getting angry
fighting over land.
Several people were injured
a few lie dead
one of the gangsters
shot to the head.
Why did all this have to happen
on such a lovely day
I lost my true love
life slipped away.
I'll never understand
such violence everyday
but hey, what do you expect?
after all....this is LA.
