The Fear Within
I feel the eyes upon me,
No matter where I look,
I’m nothing but transparent,
I am the open book,
Society is judging me,
A frown that says it all,
I see the hatred behind the mask,
Yet I will not break or fall,
Am I so wrong to be different,
Am I cruel to just be me,
The fear that strikes in others,
It traps a person you see,
A simple smile forgotten,
Nothing but preying eyes,
So many hidden faces,
Behind a masked disguise,
Once surrounded by everything natural,
Now I dare not even breathe,
For if I am in a public place,
It’s humans that make me grieve,
It’s not that I am selfish,
I have an illness you cannot see,
So just because you wear a mask,
Doesn’t give you a right to quickly judge me,
My fear is no different from yours,
My family can also get ill,
I’m just not living my life as a prisoner,
It’s not a battle of wills,
I always give space to others,
I show nothing but the upmost respect,
Yet every single time I leave my home,
I’m filled with sadness and regret,
Random people abusing me,
Because I struggle to breathe,
So just because of this virus,
I am forced to leave,
Our children scared of others,
Strangers are the cause,
They think it’s ok to abuse us,
Each time we go outdoors,
So for all of you who wear a mask,
It’s time you looked at yourself,
Your ignorance because of fear,
Makes life hell for someone else,
Don’t look for those who differ,
Keep your vile tongues in your mouth,
Remember what humanities about,
Stop living in the clouds,
Don’t force your opinions on others,
You don’t know what you can’t see,
Before you demand personal information,
Leave me alone to just be me!!!
