The Ghost of Who I Used to be
This battlefield called life shows me
The ghost of who I used to be
Never living in fear of the unknown
These days I have no more fight left to give
Living life in the fast lane doesn’t leave me with much time
To comprehend the heavy things weighing on my mind
There was a time when I was someone to contend with
Now I’m a joke with no one uppers on my side
Fighting the daily battles all alone
I’m tired of the fight and now I just want to go
The children are mostly grown
And still having nothing to show
For the years that have flown by
And here I sit idly by
Watching others live their lives
As I sit here wasting precious time
Always living with hope that tomorrow
Things will change and luck might be on my side
And it will finally be my time to shine
To show the world I am again alive
My days of beauty have passed me by
Now all that’s left
Is the ghost of who I used to be
Each year that passed me by
I died a little more inside
The battlefield of life calls me home
And once I die I will finally feel alive
