HIDDEN IN THE LIGHT

Hidden in the light
Monsters lurk unseen,
Preying upon the living
Supping upon their souls;
Feasting on their life force
Leaving them empty shells,
Zombie-like undead things
Shambling, not quite whole.

Hidden from the living
Monsters stalk us all,
Hiding in plain sight
Unseen by the light of day;
Only seen in darkness
They hunt humanity,
Fearful of the darkness
But safe in the sun's rays.

Hidden in plain sight
The dead devour our souls,
Leaving us half-people
Depleted on the inside;
Yet seeming still alive
The living rarely notice,
The emptiness within
Those just newly died.

Hidden in plain view
Black and carapaced,
Like man-sized insects
Ingesting our life essence;
Monster haunt the daytime
Picking out their prey,
Readying to pounce upon
Victims with no defence.

Screams of terror ring out
From those whose life they sup,
Yet no-one living hears them
Only those who feed;
More and more are emptied
Of all their living essence,
No longer human beings
Just food to quench their need.

THE END
