Meeting

How much must I have had
To give up on meeting you?
How long must they all
Have been dearer to you?

What I did not know  was
That meeting you would cause me pain;
You have allowed me to be mad
And love you in vain.

You have let me down
Through your feeling;
You are just prolonging
My worthless sense of living.

I have felt very sad
That you are seeking others,
I have lost the zest for living
While you were siding with another.

How will your own people
Accept you and me
While you are dearer to them;
What will I be?

Writing you letters and then
Just burning them all,
Re-reading your letters
Our lost happiness to recall.

You are living in happiness
And I am suffering;
Why can I not just kill my needs
And go to my sleep?

Never to be awakened nor waiting
For you in my worrying,
What a meeting it would be,
Just my soul in your keeping
