The Sea
How I long for a rolling deck
and the feel of a freshenin’ breeze
settin’ the land far astern
slidin’ out to the open sea
No need to fear the darkenin’ sky
Cap’n keeps it well abeam
and runs along with the risin’ wind
that whips the waves to a frothy cream
Mainsails snappin’ like thunder claps
and the riggin’ starts to sing
and salt spray turns the ropes to frost
while the bosun’s madly piping
An hour or two and we’re well asea
the storm clouds turned to lace
the bosun’s pipe has quieted down
and the ship’s running a merry pace
How I love the rolling deck
while the waves are dancin’ round
the smell of the sea and wind in the sails
the shackles of land…unbound
