Reality of Existence

Sixteen years old, with a long life to live,
gone in an instant, with nothing left to give

I could have drank myself to death, when my brother died, I jumped into video games, from then I always cried

I could have gotten high from drugs, when my world turned to dust, with emotions that run very deep, and feelings that combust

A daily living torture, with no place on earth to run,
always looking to the past, when I was not the only son

Looking for a new distraction, each day that I exist,
while dodging ever-lasting darkness, making it harder to resist

In my youth I almost died, from no making of my own,
Jesus stepped in and stopped it cold, creating a miracle zone

Many paths I have traveled, many journeys of this life,
some have turned out okay, while others just cause strife

I have run away from this world, the reality of it all,
no drugs or booze of any kind, and now I am starting to fall

A reality of existence, with a sickness I cannot beat,
I have to rely fully on Jesus, there is no room to cheat
