If I Could

If I could take this pain away
And cast it all aside
Or unto myself this burden take
That no more tears are cried

If I could walk the path for you
This journey long and hard
And with my light, to be your guide
Your comfort and your guard

If I could take away the cause
And ever be the cure
To then relieve the suffering
And make your body pure

If I could change the future
And take away the past
Preserving only cheerful thoughts
And make the moments last

If I could have the wishes
And desires of my heart
To take away the bitter cup
That you might have no part
