Suspended Animation

An empty gut wrenching hole
a life of discipline but out of control
whirlwind butterfly's stomach ache
just another careless trivial mid-day mistake
frazzled nerves beads of sweat
dreams of tension and indivisibly upset
insecurity system red light warning
another snooze button pessimistic morning
tired non-rested movement sleep
half awareness time-traveling leap
late for work shoestring broke
coffee on the road and another smoke
half the population nasty and mean
the rest of us fall somewhere in-between
responses carefully calculated tones
cliché of remarks nobody really owns
another sunset and elder time of day
daylight passing but feeling okay
slipping into earth shadow night
anxiety about sleep as I turn out the light
