Hara's Flight

Down
those ever-winding,
ceaseless stairs,
Hara felt her way.
Lichen growing
green
(and black-
just like her mood)
hung upon the walls.
Ever downward;
No indication of the end.
The howling wind tears it's way
up and down the shaft.
A million years from the top;
A million years again.
Hara picks up her slippered feet,
and makes her way yet faster.
Candle sputters,
Candle falters;
Covers it with her hands.
And makes her way,
ever faster.
A million miles gone,
as many yet to come.
Hara's heart burns;
Mirrors
her candle in the gloom.
Time
winds slowly down
forever down
The wind the only sound
forever now
forever now
In that tower on the moon
