Gaurding My Heart From Love

Melinda Smith 1986 (Roanoke)

A single moment of dread, slowly drowns my heart.
The dread of facing a reality but I have no idea where to start.
The reality that our love has turned into a lonely bitter cold.
There is still the future of our relationship that has yet to unfold.
The conversations we used to carry have become a silent tune that we cannot bare.
All of our troubling thoughts and dreams we no longer seem to share.
What will this distance between us create for us as we try to last as far as our futures will go?
It's this unknown doubt and fear that claws at my heart and mind and I must know.
Neither of us wants to admit it but we both see what has happened to our romance.
It's almost as if we both have become exhausted and bored of our long lasting dance.
Closing my eyes tightly, I squeeze a tear out as I breathe deeply and let myself fall.
No matter what I am ready to risk my heart once more for a heartbreak and epic love that holds it all.
Hopefully never regretting my leap of faith in you, I patiently wait.
I guess we will find out if our souls finding one another was really fate.
