Still Standing

Hirendra Kumar Meher 1961 (Odisha)

O I’m still standing at this age……
Although I bow a little, rooted to earth as wise as a sage.
Ages and ages, I will survive……
On my deeds and footprints, they will thrive.

My left-over arms have their legacy
To explore and unfurl the ecstasy.
A couple of leaves on my head
Blaring aloud, “Are you dead?”
The roots wearing the boots guffaw
And the poor leaves on my head get squeezed,
Awfully they read their flaw.

O I’m still standing at this age
Although I bow a little, rooted to earth as wise as a sage. ©
