A Mother Cried

A mother cried a mother cried as her dear son was crucified
oh a mother cried that cloudy day.

oh I know it took some strong men to hold her, to keep
Mary from her son, she had to stand aside for
he was the only one
yet a mother cried.

As they marched him down the street spitting and calling
him names he loved them and said they should not be blamed, yet a mother cried,

as they drove the nails in his hands so hard for a mother
to understand oh a mother cried,

oh they hung him on a tree for the whole cruel world to
see she never question, for it had to be yet a mother cried.

Then he said, Woman, behold thy son, his fathers work was almost done yet a mother cried

Oh a mother cried a mother cried as her dear son was crucified a mother cried a mother cried that cloudy day
