AMNESIA

JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)

AMNESIA
Remembered is the past recalled
A recollection ring fenced, walled
Held in the corner of a mind
In a place that I know how to find
The summer days, the times well spent
The fragrances from flowers sent
The taste, the smell of that consumed
Inside a cognisance finely tuned
Then came the trauma of that blow
The seed of doubt pure chance to sow
And in the place where recall hid
A void, a chasm tight fast the lid
What was my name? Where do I live?
Do I like wine is it palliative?
Can I find my way to where I was?
I think I need to, well because….
I need to know just whom I loved
Or if my hand bore patience glove
Was I smart or dumb how do I stand?
A stranger in a foreign land
Across the place where recall stayed
A veil is drawn memory delayed
And though I try it will not come
When I hit recall now there is none
A waiting game that has no rules
Defends the space that has no tools
And through the ether glimpses shine
Was this recall ever one of mine?
My name forgot, life left behind
Obscured the structure of the mind
Everything I know, or did or said
Behind a door closed in my head
