Vow Of Silence

Growing in their language labs
Genetically-modified diction
Popular parrots always lack
The courage of conviction

Religion is rehearsed in Latin
History well-versed in Greek
Money speaks fluent profanity
Pluck out my tongue lest I should speak

I cannot promise them allegiance
Silence is my only vow
Come, whisper into my ear
Baby, I really need you now

Spoken loudly as a candle
Spoken with breath as a flame
Should they ask me who I love
No one will hear your holy name

Let the addicts croak like frogs
Let wolves bay at the moon above
Let trains whistle and buses groan
As we whisper, fluent in love

I cannot promise them allegiance
Silence is my only vow
Come, whisper into my ear
Baby, I really need you now

Dogs are barking down the hollow
The teapot whistles Heart and Soul
A fire crackles from the hearth
Silent candles against the cold

And when forever rolls around
Winds whispering among the pines
My ear will be available
Come whisper me between the lines

I cannot promise them allegiance
Silence is my only vow
Come, whisper into my ear
Baby, I really need you now
