Objects In Mirrors

she never learned to
(say)
i love you
fluttering
to her friends
her family
the stray humans
she rescues and collects
memory wings
tributes behind
glass cases

it's heroic, really
the way she
hovers above
emotions
sprinkles sweetness
her voice
fairy dust
a hymn
distant
recollective

objects in the mirror
are closer
than they appear

she has been
pinned and stabbed
too often
flutter surrenders
succumbs
reality
overcomes

the fog
the fairy dust
the sweetness
dim vision in
glass cases

eyelashes flutter

some butterlies aren't
free
