Fear

Chills down your spine with what's said,
second thought to numb the desire.
Life goes by and then you're dead,
no second chance to relight the fire.

Needles through your head from the thought of action,
one moment as it fades away.
Enslaved by fear chained to inhibition,
as you find yourself empty again.

A void in your soul conceived by the lack of mettle,
another bottle to drown the regret.
As time moves on and the memories settle,
the space within shares the fate of your cigarette.

Don't look back with hesitation,
there's no time for meditation.
Don't turn back in dismay,
there's no mercy for you this way.
One second could be a second too late.
