The Ticking

John A Long 1963 (Santa Rosa, CA)

Tick, tock. tick tock goes the time piece
day in and day out; ‘What’s the explanation?
Who knows?’

There’s no way to disregard it in the peaceful
moments, no possibility of human escape; the only
likely interruptions being from the pets- even on a
wind filled day the sound is heard

Neither pomposity, conceit, rush, bluff rant, fear
disdain, crouching, deprivation, sadness (real or not),
nor desire can eliminate the ticking- for it is irrelevant
to them

Companions and confidants realized or not are frequently
beneficial reasons to constantly withdrawal from self assassination-
happiness mustn’t only be won but kept at all costs- the ticking
continues do you know who, when and where you are?
