Looking Back

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Living everyday.
To experience air to breathe.
And looking back to wonder,
Just how difficult would it be...
Without air to breathe.
For those clinging,
Onto their possessions more valued.
And...
Obtained to gain from foreign shores.
Yet begging for a safe place to keep,
Away from those of ethnic diversity!
No shame is claimed by the brainless.

'All of humanity,
Is being threatened by climate change.
Caused by the polluting,
Of the air, water.
And the eroding to decay...
Thoughtless, empty and unused,
Minds.
Creating rusting particles of dust,
To float unnoticed...
Resulting from dead heads.
Dressed to masquerade,
As conscious living human beings.'

Everything!
Even us becomes dust.

'Maybe that's why so many are crazed.
Sniffing up all that stuff.
And not knowing,
If it had been organically grown...
Or not.'

We are what we eat.
Breathe to think and believe!
And yet the Earth,
Remains to be the benefactor of it all.
Even performances,
Beyond to label them ignorant.
Gone are those times,
No longer to embarrass but enjoy!
