That Time, That Year

I was upset, I was in despair, beyond repair

I was resigned, I was saddened, beyond hope

That day, that time, so was that year.

I was aimless, I was uprooted, without anchor

I was floating, I was transient, without mooring

That day, that time, so was that year.

I was lonely, I was alone, no one to share

I was lost, I was solitary, no one to tend

That day, that time, so was that year.

I found happiness, I found joy, beyond measure

I found smile, I found laughter, beyond estimate

That day, that moment, it happened that year.

I found hope, I found reason, without fear

I found peace, I found calm, without dread

That day, that moment, it happened that year.

I found someone, I found you, no one other

I found me, I found us, no one further

That day, that moment, it happened that year.

We are us, we are different, yet together

We are ourselves, we are distinct, yet united

This day, this moment and forever.

Seema Banerjee

Hello, I am Seema, and my creations are the windows to my soul, they allow a glimpse of all that is me. Words have always been my friends, and I have chosen them as the medium of expressing my innermost thoughts. I have the usual roles: Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, to name a few, and have many names that go along with these. But above all, I am a Woman, which completes my identity. I can be found immersed in a tale of trying to understand myriad things. I have been content fulfilling my varied roles, but there was that nugget of desire; that flame flickering to burn brighter and spread light. This is my journey to attain that elusive goal of becoming a writer. The long road meanders, just like my thoughts, follow the dips and curves with me. Come share my words and contemplations, give your opinions and become my companion in this adventure. more…
