A Rock and Roll Story
Sean Taylor 1968 (Georgia)
Part 1: Deference
My fingers hurt and my bank account
Is as empty as the inside of a naught,
But the song on this 4-track
Says everything I’ve ever wanted to hear –
Blood poured through the 12-bar blues,
Souled emptied into three old chords.
What ever happens to a dream deferred?
I don’t know – I never stopped chasing mine.
Part 2: Worship
I see your jet black tights
And a tank top shirt.
The way you shakes things around
Man, I bet that hurts,
But you put yourself through it
For my mates and me.
You endure it all
To show how much you love the band.
Part 3: Legacy
She had such happy eyes then
When the hospital odors couldn’t curb our joy.
Now they seem more tired, distracted,
But the Telecaster in the corner of her room
Stills comes out to play, its strings
freshly callousing her fingertips.
“Stairway to Heaven” is as fresh to us
As the day I taught it to her.
