Dandelions

She ruminates ‘bout his voyages—
the paths in life he travels…
Childhood play under a mauve-blue sky…
He gathered for her dandelions.

Sweet, pure, innocent love...
How can she reacquire it now?
Walking, through the field, perpending love, collecting dandelions.

Breathing deeply, holding them close,
shutting her eyes, twirling...
Reminiscing ... childhood days...
He picked for her dandelions.

Eyes, wide-open, her reverie now gone—
she walked and walked, tears falling...
Cold recollection—she spurned his gift when he offered her dandelions.

Sitting, glimpsing the setting sun…
Her mind traveled again, back to childhood...
Recalling his pain and disappointment…
With both fists clenched, she pounded the grass.

He was cognizant of her tumultuous life—
for many years he loved her;
yet, he knew her heart did not beat for him
when he offered her dandelions.

They lived parallel lives;
wanderers ... searching for love...
He saw her drenching the grass with tears
and felt the rapid beating of her dithery heart.

Her eyes blinked nimbly as he approached...
Is this a dream? or a mocking illusion?
Smiling, he gently reached for her hand, offering her dandelions.

Unable to move—her gazed fixed on him.
Is this work of the Fates?
He touched her cheek, wiped a tear away—embraced her, delicately.

Gently, fearfully, they drew apart—wordlessly, searching each other's eyes...
Hand-in-hand, silently they walked, holding dandelions.
