Analysis of Facebook Zombies

E.S. Conway 1985 (United Kingdom)

Happiness should be the journey,
Death the destination,
But modern life is one long pursuit,
Of self worth annihilation.

You cannot see the wood,
For all the wasted paper,
No longer going for a smoke,
Just sucking poison vapour.

Socialising through an app,
Texting side by side,
Socially antisocial,
On a media driven ride.

A rise in teenage pregnancy,
A surge in dead end dads,
Priorities all muddled up,
Treating children like they're fads.

Though people may be kind,
They also hurt and maim,
Desperate to be liked,
From their 15 second fame.

The world today has lost so much,
Through the poisoned viral net,
The youth these days are all caught up,
In lies and pointless debt.

But tomorrow holds a chance,
To give happiness a voice,
Inside ourselves, deep down low,
We all know it's a choice.

Turn off that computer,
Don't check your phone at all,
Meet your friends, in real life,
Or at least give them a call.

Question all you're told in life,
Don't follow like a sheep,
Then maybe we can wake this world,
From its Facebook zombie sleep.

E.S. Conway

A poet by proxy of therapy. Her works (with only a couple of exceptions) are comprised of poems written in a form of therapy diary, they served for several years as an aid to dealing with situations that may or may not be within the poems themselves. This is also the reason for so much rhyming; though not necessary for poetry, it was part of what made poetry therapeutic for her and so is an almost certain constant. more…
