Analysis of If I Were Smart
Nina R. Schapiro 1954 (TEXAS)
If I were smart,
if I were smart
I wouldn't expose my silly heart.
It cannot think,
it has no will;
It's gonna end up getting killed.
If you were wise,
if you were wise
You wouldn't look into my eyes.
Thery're bright & clear,
they're deep and brown;
You're gonna end up getting drowned.
If you were wise
& I were smart,
We would never even start.
I'd shut my heart;
you'd shift your eyes;
We'd never hear each other's lies.
