Analysis of Vacant Stares
Frustration builds to a steady release
as sighs wrap wild explosions of defeat
around my chest's tightly stuttered rattle.
Inner thoughts gallop along confusion
while I wander the plains of ifs and buts.
Emotional perplexity screams
images of life; dark wilted roses,
and tears collide on soft skin: trembling.
If she would only hear my pleas; return
to the delicate chambers my heart holds,
though of course I kid myself as usual.
Within this complexity I shrivel,
rooms throw out ghostly shapes of emptiness
towards vacant stares that bounce off dead walls,
all the beauty has evaporated -
sucked away by the front door's viciousness.
And it is always at this precise time
a sad song ripples from radio waves;
haunting with its melancholy burden,
typical sorrow, forever she grins:
opening wounds with a cruel feather touch.
With sleep beckoning me with coloured dreams
I relinquish my tired grip on awake.
