Analysis of stigma

I knew a girl with a magic tattoo
If you turned off the lights it started glowing blue
Shining blue and black on the back of her arm
A needle-pointed talisman to keep her safe from harm
She seemed to appear in all the right places
Remembering names and remembering faces
Just another girl too afraid to commit
When the room filled up she just couldn't sit

But that's the nature of the stigma
It cuts you down to size
A perpetual enigma
I can see it in your eyes

I guess she was scared to look inside
When the sun came up there'd be no place to hide
There was no way of knowing the things she might find
She said I can't hang around in one place for too long
I can't read your expression, is that so wrong
I apologize if I can't meet your eyes
When they tell me a joke I'll react with surprise
She accepted the things she would never understand
Like autistic rain in the palm of her hand
She said its' like I've been drifting in space
Collecting the pieces to fit them in place
But the jigsaw puzzle just wouldn't connect
There's a tower she lives in designed to deflect
And lately I've grown fascinated by you
I'll be haunting the city with nothing to do
Like the scrambled signal that never got through

That's the nature of the stigma
Where it holds you in its thrall
A perpetual enigma
I can't understand it all
