Analysis of Green Pendulums
Today, the hooded wood was cloaked in fog
as if a cloud forest seething, steaming forth
Streaming light poured in through the trees
Through the wet smoke of dissipating mist
Leaves hovered gently like green pendulums
Fiery dewdrops, sun prisms lolling to and fro
Particles of water congealed on the precipice
Sky bound, rising mist disappears into sol
Souls speed by in metal contraptions on concrete
Asphalt, on their way to visit their half dead
living ancestors, the delicate frail examples
of what we will soon become, nothing at all
Shadows of dead trees splayed across a clear cut
We live amongst the proud boughs that cast them,
shriveling into ancient eyes looking backwards
The shadows of what we once were, we now are
Shadows disappear at high noon, free from memory
Only when the dead are forgotten can they escape
We wonder what fragments of us are left behind
As we evaporate into sol, slowly dissipate into mist
Dewdrops on green pendulums, rolling off into duff
Slowly seeping into subcurrents, into substrate
Tunnels and wet minerals, earth, stone, roots
I hope that before I evaporate the last shadows of me
seep into an apple tree
