Analysis of Bedsheets
Brayden Valley 2002 (PA)
A cold chill that gives you goosebumps when you open your window
The calmness of the silence that gives you away in a crowd
Your ears covered with muffs that keep your thoughts in until the cold air coats your tongue
A cold breath that exhales when you inhale your ice
Thoughts getting slower breathing getting heavy the thought of warmness left
When the leaves were a beautiful autumn red
The apple cinnamon that makes your eyes widen
Remembering a time where people weren’t so cold
The whiteness of the snow that contains you in your solitude
4 walls that echo your voice but nobody hears
The walls paper that is peeling when it looks at you
The bedsheets provide a softness with a blanket that covers your heart from the cold
If you leave these 4 walls does it keep the room cold?
The window is closed, I’m silent and it’s still cold
I’ve left and returned but these walls are closing in
Getting smaller like your pride
The snow that wasn’t cold before now lingers in your doorway
locking you in like a prisoner
Zooming by like my thoughts when I could still remember the outline of teachers
Walking back in forth touching your skin while putting a warmness to your papers
A classroom being made of screens and wires
They never think that they are teaching the next generation how to function
“You’re never gonna have a calculator so learn mental math”
That quote repeats itself when walking through the doors
With your laptop replacing pencils and paper and the calculator now an app on your phone
Your fingers that have forgotten the feel of a written letter sent like a soldier at war
The response taking months while fighting with the mentality of being alone until done with your service
Spitting us out like a veteran who got injured in combat
Sent home and left with no help but yourself.
