Analysis of Mixtape

Christopher David Mears 1982 (Indianapolis)

Im running out of tape,

Getting short on play time.

So im writing down
This love poem,

From me to you;
A lover’s ryhme.

Wish this life was a casette,

Go back in time,
By hitting stop,
Then rewind.

Id record over the one hit wonders,
And wipe off the dirt and grime.

It’s taken so long to record this musical fix,
Wish it wouldve been possible to fast forward,
Through the top 40 hits;
Good thing
This is the extended mix.

Jammin to the reggae,
Made mi fi real irie,
You know?
Like marley.

When I had lost control,
It was usually just rock n’ roll.

Down south with the country,
Just made me feel funny.

When I was paper chasin; getting that money,

It was always hip hop and rap,
Up and down like 64’s,
I felt this and that.

Bumping house music always made me do a little dance;
A mental vacation,
Felt like,
I had another chance.

But when I heard your sound,
The vibration flattened me to the ground.

From analog to digital,
Your sound is medicinal.

Now this beat is kickin’,
It ain’t ever skippin’.

Hearing your tune,
Makes my heart go boom!

Your boombox’s plastic,
Makes me feel fantastic.

From my soundsystem blasting your melody,
So loud,
It's probablly a felony.

I still turn it up,
Because you are the jam.
I want to loop,
Over and over again.

Playing our greatest hits,
Causes me to throw fits.

With the bass,
And treble,
Levels high,
And the mids down low,

I keep your song banging,
Every where I go.

Vinyl,
Eight track,
Cd,
Tape casette,
Or mp3;
It all sounds weak to me.
Because with you
Its live;
The very best that it could be.
