Quand je voudrai sonner de mon grand Avanson
Les moins grandes vertus, sur ma corde plus basse
Je dirai sa faconde et l'honneur de sa face,
Et qu'il est des neuf Soeurs le plus cher nourrisson.

Quand je voudrai toucher avec un plus haut son
Quelque plus grand vertu, je chanterai sa grâce,
Sa bonté, sa grandeur, qui la justice embrasse,
Mais là je ne mettrai le but de ma chanson,

Car quand plus hautement je sonnerai sa gloire,
Je dirai que jamais les filles de Mémoire
Ne diront un plus sage et vertueux que lui,

Plus prompt à son devoir, plus fidèle à son prince,
Ni qui mieux s'accommode au règne d'aujourd'hui,
Pour servir son seigneur en étrange province.
