Analysis of A Child needs no Kingdom

Basudev Karmakar 1974 (West Bengal , India)

A Child Needs No Kingdom

A child has a mighty potency
To acquire any adaptability.
What it knows about insurgency
Sticking to me or you, how pretty!

Send it to the air and catch
Fearing not a fall on the land.
Godly laugh it rears when you fetch,
Stainless belief it has when it bangs.

Whoever has its origination
Parentage it quenches and well rejoices.
Luxuries and amenities, not its nation,
Mirthful always; no bar of dearth or riches.

No leisure has it from throwing
Its limbs and laughing at your mimicry.
Little liquid is food, tiny cradle for sleeping,
‘Happiness’ is its God and ‘Decry’ for its enemy.

About this poem

A child unlike a man has no high demand. It loves all and mix with all. It is not afraid when you send it to a little high. It laughs rather. It does not wish rich or poor parents. Little is its food and no luxuries.
