Analysis of Gone Astray

Andrew St. Wilson 1954 (Libertyville, Ill)

Traveling into America's future
as covert patriots from her past
we quietly kept our identity hidden
   a sacred document was written
   would our beloved words last

Risked death and shame
   risked fortune and fame
   by signing our very name

We walked by faith
   bequeathed our dreams to fate
what the throne of England truly hated
   we were officially, politically separated

What have our children done
streets on fire, no patriotic desire
   government weaponizing agencies
not what we had hoped to see
is this the country we died to set free

We petitioned death
   rather than lose liberty
   elections and the boarders
so plain to see, chaos and disorder

We shall return unto our past
   woes of freedom desperately weep
   as lukewarm citizens quietly sleep
America, blessed by God, cursed by foes

Freedom, replacing it with Socialism
return our bones into pits of the past
rather sleep in graves covered in dirt
yesteryear was but a breath away
dreams of our past, sadly gone astray
