Analysis of A letter

Sneha Umeshan 2004 (Payyanur, kerala)

Time pacing
People changing
But was the change for the better?
‘Mother kills son and husband, for lover’ was today’s title in the newsletter

Fighting for our freedom and rights
A generation of taking things for granted, was the price
A girl scholar humiliated on stage by the so-called preachers of god
When accused all they did was nonchalantly nod.

A time where no one feared confrontation
As they were aware it only lasts for a short duration
The darkest of the dark cases that once made headlines
Have all faded into a mist without any signs.

From a widespread deadly virus to third world war
Our generation has gotten to see the worst of the worst so far
Comments of grief and sadness that flooded the internet
But as the hype died down these events were long forgotten as a threat.

Yet we preach how the times have changed
To a time where kids are taught about their religion before humanity
To a time where a ‘false sense of pleasure’ to one’s life is exchanged
To a time where one is clouded by a big ego but lacks dignity.

Again has times really changed for the better ?
With this perplexed question she ends her letter.

Yours Truly,
Sneha Umeshan
