Analysis of Consider This, Friend

Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)

Consider this, friend:
The journey of the human race
For each one of us;
Bourne out of a mother’s womb;
Destined to live our own lives.

Consider this, friend:
Imprint it on your own mind.
You are God’s creature.
Designed for His sole purpose;
And by His authority.

Consider this, friend:
Your mother as God’s vessel.
Him as the Potter.
Fashioning you with Spirit;
To dwell in physical world.

Consider this, friend:
You are made in God’s image.
His begotten child;
In whom He is well pleased.
Always there, close beside you.

Consider this, friend:
You are never quite alone.
Your Father watching;
Watching with protective hands.
Whispering words of comfort.

Consider this, friend:
The Father’s love is priceless.
As a mother’s womb.
Compassionate and healing;
To nourish the human soul.

Consider this, friend:
Pure chance did not create you.
For God planned it all.
Your parents are His vessels;
Him as the Potter, them as the Clay.

Consider this, friend:
You are weak, but He is strong.
In Him there is strength.
The Potter asks for your faith;
For He will not forsake you.

Consider this, friend:
The journey is not finished.
Just follow His Way.
What God starts, He finishes;
To lead you to His Kingdom .

Consider this, friend:
God created all of us.
Each life so precious.
Each uniquely different;
All His worthy creation.

Consider this, friend:
We are charged, by God’s desire;
To love each other.
Even as He loves us all;
Despite all our shortcomings.

About this poem

We are told that there are four types of love. In common language the four types of love are displayed as Friendship, Passion, Admiration, and Unconditional Love. Just imagine it. God’s divine Unconditional Love encompasses all of these: the Friendship of Trustworthiness; the Passion of a sacrificial love displayed on the cross; the Admiration of respect and friendship of God’s love for His creation; God’s Unconditional Love that surpasses all human wisdom and understanding. This tanka poem was composed to lift us up when we feel isolated and alone, knowing that, in truth, we are always being showered by the bounty of God’s benevolent tender loving kindness.
